New ‘Drive Thru’ Cinema to open in Dublin!

Well, with the recently opened Odeon Cinema in the Point Village down by the O2, you’d think the IFSC would have enough cinemas but it appears that Cork based company Movie Junction are set to open their second ‘Drive Thru’ cinema in the docklands area with 2 screens.

With there first version of this type of cinema in Cork, the company sees the docklands of Dublin the perfect location to open a brand new branch. The name ‘Drive Thru’ is quite misleading though as it will obviously be more of a ‘drive in’ set up. You are looking at around €16 per car with 2 people or €20 for car with however many people. They have quite an ingenious way of doing the sound for the film though. At their Cork based cinema, when you arrive to watch the film, they will give you a FM frequency to tune your radio to and that’s how you will get the sound for the film!

The practicality of it all still has me quite worried. Sure the two people in the front of the car will have a great view but what about the people in the back? We will just have to wait and see how this pans out.

So are you interested or do you prefer the old fashioned way of getting out of your car and going into the cinema?

Stranded at the drive, branded a fool, what will they say, Monday at school….mmm how would John Travolta sound with a Cork accent? I wouldn’t say it’s ingenious, tech has been around for decades. Also watching a movie when it’s raining and through wipers? This is a bad idea, won’t last long imo. Cork isn’t Kansas
