Nokia Unveil Two Windows Phone 7 Devices
Nokia held their massive Nokia World press event this morning in London to officially unveil the first in their line of upcoming Windows Phone 7 devices, which were the subject of many leaks and rumours in the past few months.
Two Nokia branded Windows Phone 7 handsets were shown by CEO Stephen Elop, one ‘high-end’ and one ‘low-end’ device.
The former is the Lumia 800, heavily based on the hardware of the Meego-equipped N9 which was released just last week and also the device previously codenamed “Sea Ray” in the aforementioned leaks and rumours.
The Lumia 800 will sport all the bells and whistles of Windows Phone 7.5 (Or Mango) and comes in an array of colours: cyan, magenta and black with an 8MP rear camera containing Carl Zeiss optics, an f/2.2 aperture specifically for good shots in low light and is designed to be a camera that works for “ordinary people, under ordinary circumstances.”
The Lumia 800 has a nice 3.7 inch AMOLED (800 x 480) ClearBlack curved display to give the screen a ‘floating’ feel to it and the body of the device is moulded from durable polycarbonate plastic and is quite slim at only 12.1mm (0.48-inch) along with tapered edges at the top and bottom of the device.
Under the hood the Lumia 800 is packing a 1.4GHz processor with hardware acceleration and a graphics processor. Also inside is 16 GB of internal storage alongside 25GB of cloud-based storage on Microsoft’s SkyDrive and 512mb of RAM.
Not only that but Nokia have built in their own software into the phone such as Nokia Drive, Nokia Music and ESPN Sports Hub
The Lumia 800 will cost approximately €420 on launch and is expected to launch in November in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK, the latter could include Ireland also – we’re waiting to hear back on that one.
On the other hand we have the Lumia 710, the ‘lower end’ Nokia Windows Phone 7 device.
It contains the same 1.4GHz processor found in the Lumia 800, the same sized 3.7 inch ClearBlack display and comes in ‘Stealthy Black’ or ‘Crisp White’ with the option of exchangeable backs for those of you who want a bit more flair.
The Lumia 710 has a 5MP camera on board and is expected to cost €270 upon launch with the same availability as the 800 in November but expanded to further markets early in 2012.
