Canon Ireland Outperforms the Market With 8% Increase In Sales

Canon Consumer Imaging (CCI) Ireland has announced that it is outperforming the market and has reported a 8% increase in sales, despite the current economic climate.  The sales are being attributed to the shift in consumer behaviour as more people turn to hobbies such as photography and home printing as a choice of entertainment and the launch of the EOS 5D Mark II, the first EOS with full High Definition video capability, and the LEGRIA range of High Definition camcorders.

Canon Consumer Imaging has retained its number one position in the digital photography market after experiencing significant year-on-year growth and increasing market share.  Canon has consistently topped the digital photography sales charts each month.  As a result, Canon Consumer Imaging has signed a new deal with Total Import Solutions to distribute its product range in order to increase its existing nationwide distribution network.

“One of the current consumer trends we are benefiting from is the number of people reverting back to traditional hobbies like photography and printing photographs at home.  Canon has benefited from this in particularly because of the customer loyalty we have generated.  In addition, the digital SLR segment has been identified as the key performer in the camera market at present.  With a lot of consumers already on their second or third compact camera, what we are seeing is that people are trading up to a digital SLR model.  This is a segment we play very strongly in, with models like the EOS 450D, Ireland’s best selling DSLR camera, and the EOS 5D Mark II, our flagship model in the range.”

Over the past twelve months, the company launched five new models in the digital SLR market – the EOS 1000D, 500D, 450D, 50D and 5D Mark II – creating a wider range of choice for consumers.  One of the latest award winning cameras introduced to the market was the EOS 5D Mark II, which won numerous plaudits for its innovative features.  It is the first EOS with full High Definition video capability, creating a multitude of new possibilities for photojournalists and news photographers.  The company has recently launched 26 new products this autumn across its digital photography, camcorder and printing range of products.
