Batman, Battlefield and a Missing Link – Your Weekly Games Update
A week full of trailers and one major release, here’s a roundup of the biggest news in games.
Gears of War 3 launched earlier this week to glowing press and midnight launches across the world, as the last game in the current trilogy Gears 3 was pre-ordered by more than 1.2 million people before release and will no doubt shoot to the top of the charts next week.
We were on hand at the Official Irish Launch and will have our review up soon, after the dedicated servers are fixed so we can try out the multiplayer properly.
The first of many trailers we have for you from this week is for the new Batman Arkham City which highlights the inclusion of the Joker. It was already known he’d be pestering Batman again but we’re never ones to complain about brand new trailers.
The open beta for upcoming shooter Battlefield 3 got timetabled this week also, the beta will be open to the public and begin September 29th and end October 10th. Players who have the Tier 1 edition of last year’s mediocre Medal of Honor and PC players who’ve pre-ordered Battlefield 3 on EA’s Origin Service can both access the beta two days early on the 27th.
The beta will feature the ‘Operation Metro’ multiplayer map that’s set in Paris, France and playing the game mode come staple of Battlefield – Rush.
It’s worth noting that developer DICE has stated that there will be no limit to what rank you can achieve in the beta but weapon and class unlocks will not carry over into the full game when it releases October 27th.
EA also gave us this nice Battlefield 3 trailer mixed with Jay-Z – not a bad combo.
Eidos & Square Enix showed off a new walkthrough video to upcoming DLC for Deus Ex: Human Revolution titled ‘The Missing Link’.
The walkthrough details what players can expect with the new DLC mainly highlighting the fact that Adam Jenson will be stripped of his augmentations and have to essentially start from scratch, avoiding enemies in his weak state and trying to discover why he was abducted.
The Missing Link is available to download sometime in October.
Regarding DLC that is actually released and not just teased, ‘The Lonesome Road’ is brand new content for Fallout New Vegas and is available to download right now for Xbox 360, PS3 & PC costing 800MSP or €9.99 respectively.
“In Lonesome Road you are contacted by the original Courier Six, a man by the name of Ulysses who refused to deliver the Platinum Chip at the start of Fallout: New Vegas. Ulysses promises the answer as to why he didn’t take the job, but only if you make one last journey into the hurricane-swept canyons of the Divide, a landscape torn apart by earthquakes and violent storms. It’s up to you whether you take the job or not.”
Big news for racing/car enthusiasts this week to as Microsoft announced that a demo for upcoming racing sim Forza 4 will be released October 3rd on Xbox Live which gives you just over a week before the full game is released on October 14th to decide how badly you want it.
Microsoft also gave details of a ‘Season Pass’ for the game costing 2,400 Microsoft Points, this will entitle players to six additional downloadable packs as they’re released between November and April.
It might be a bit much to ask straight after paying for the game itself but Microsoft state that it is “representing a 30 per cent overall saving as compared to purchasing the content separately.”
If you do decide to take the plunge and purchase the Season Pass then you’ll receive the American Muscle Car Pack on day one which includes the following cars:
o 1965 Pontiac GTO
o 1968 Pontiac Firebird
o 1970 Buick GSX
o 1970 Dodge Cornet Super Bee
o 1966 Chevrolet Nova SS
o 1969 Shelby GT500 428CJ
o 1971 Plymouth GTX 426 Hemi
o 1967 Dodge Cornet W023
o 1968 Dodge Dart HEMI Super Stock
o 1964 Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt
It’s worth keeping in mind that the full version of Forza 4 does come with over 500 cars on the disc, so this Season Pass might not be up your alley unless you’re a serious car enthusiast, that said if you do want the new cars down the line, you’ll be paying full price and kicking yourself for not getting the Pass so choose wisely.
We’ve covered this particular DLC before, but Rezurrection Zombie pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops is now available for PS3 & PC and gamers who bought the Hardened or Prestige editions of Black Ops will receive the new Moon content for free.
