Airnergy… This.Is.Amazing!

This is possibly the first piece of tech I’ve gotten truly excited about in a while. Right, so the tech is called Airnergy and it’s from a company called RCA (who you may have heard of at some point, they make lots of bits a bobs, including the One4All remote). What is Airnergy? Well, as you probably figured, its an energy device, but unlike Steorns “free” energy device, the Airnergy actually works!

What it does is harness the energy that is contained within the 2.4ghz bands of Wifi. That’s right, it gets it’s power from the Wifi Signals!! Stop for a second and thing about that… when these days aren’t you around some sort of Wifi signal (especially in the city). You’re walking down the street and you’re surrounded by it from Shops, Bistros, Homes and Apartments. For example, even though my apartment is on the 4th Floor of the apartment block, I’m still seeing 10 wifi Hotspots around me.

So, the first version of Airnergy will be an external power pack that will charge your phone. It charges itself – that is, there’s a battery built in to the device and it charges that which in turn charges your phone etc.. When the battery in the Airnergy starts running down it starts harvesting the power from the nearby wifi signals to topup the internal battery!!
The next version they want to release they want the tech built directly into the battery in your phone!!! HOLY MONKEY BALLS! This is the wireless power we’ve been dreaming of for years. Thinks about it, if you had one of these batteries in your phone, just by walking about with Wifi signals around you, your phone would be charging it’s self. If you’ve wifi at home, you just come home and the phone is charging without even having to take it out of your pocket… now, if that doesn’t impress you, I honestly don’t know what in the work of Tech, Gadgets and Gizmos’ will! Obviously how fast the things charge depends on your proximity to the Wifi Signal and the amount of them around.

An example they gave at CES was they charged a Blackberry from 30% to Full in about and Hour and an Half, which is very impressive!! AND, it’s not a Concept… It’s actually work and the first version will be out this year for less than 50euro (he said 39dollars on the video), with the battery version out end of this year, beginning of next!!

Here’s a video from CES, have a look just so you believe me:
