New Virtual Reality headset Could Be a Game Changer (Pun Intended)
Well here we have another Kickstarter project that is sure to get you gamers out there really excited. The headset I’m talking about is called the Oculus Rift and is aiming to get $250,000 in 30 days but has already raised over $830.000 in just 2! There is a pitch video trying to describe to you the product and why you should back it but obviously there is only so much they can show you how the headset works but you will never really be able to experience it first-hand.
The interesting (and impressive) part of the video though is the amount of celebrity endorsement the guys over at Oculus have gotten. Now, when I say ‘celebrity’, what I mean is gaming celebrities like Cliff Blezinski, or CliffyB, from Epic Games and Gabe Newell from Valve. These guys are some serious heavy hitters when it comes to the gaming industry so to get their backing is a big thing.
The company’s aim is to start by getting developers to back the project so they cam start to implement the device into their future games. Then, I can see a big push happening for backing from the hardcore gamers. The device is said to retail at an estimated $275 but it is still early days yet on the price. The website is giving an estimated arrival time of the headset as ‘Dec 2012′ so it could be late next year before we see it on the shelves.
To me, it really does look promising and to say I’m dying to try one out is an understatement! Tell us what you think of it in the comments!
Here is the pitch video and the Kickstarter page.
