App Highlights of the Week
Welcome to our App Highlights of the Week.
Each week we’ll be highlighting one stand-out app per smartphone OS that we feel is worthy of your attention, whichever of these phone platforms you own – you owe it to yourself to check out these apps.
Let’s get to it.
iOS – Action Movie FX
Developer – Bad Robot Interactive
This is a really simple idea for an app, yet is tons of fun and remains fresh and cool no matter how many times you use it.
It’s quite simple really, you shoot a few seconds of video, be it of a car, house or whatever and edit in some kind of distraction afterwards such as a helicopter crash, missile strike or tornado.
The results are’nt HollyWood quality but have fooled a couple of people we’ve shown the finished videos to.
Action Movie FX is Free with three free special effects and others are available to download in-app.
Android – Evi
Developer - True Knowledge Limited
It’s understandable for Android (and iPhone 4/3GS) users to be a little jealous of the iPhone 4s’ helpful companion Siri, but the good news is now you don’t have to be – Evi is here to help.
Evi is a voice assistant much like Siri, except that Evi is not exclusive to the iPhone 4s, it works on Android and iOS.
You can also ask Evi questions or queries in text as well as voice, use Evi’s built in browser to avoid app switching and even rate answers to help better Evi worldwide.
The best part is, Evi is free so you non Siri lovers have no excuse.
Windows Phone – Xbox Companion
Developer – Microsoft Studios
We’ve covered the Xbox Companion app here before but we feel that it deserves to be highlighted this week as it’s just so useful.
The app allows you to control your Xbox 360 Console by using your Windows Phone, and it really is as cool as it sounds.
It allows you to control video, browse the dashboard and game/video/app marketplaces and also quick launch apps or games.
It’s essential for any Windows Phone user who also owns an Xbox, which we expect is most Windows Phone users.
